Aled Roberts

Welsh Pharmacy Board

Aled, a Cardiff University alumnus, registered in 2009 and became an independent prescriber in 2021. He is an advocate of collaboration and co-operation in improving the lives of patients, professionals and wider populations.

Aled worked for Co-operative Pharmacy (later Well Pharmacy) as a pharmacist and pharmacy manager in various pharmacies in the South Wales valleys from the point of registration, and in 2020 he won Well Pharmacy’s “Pharmacist of the Year” award.

He has been involved in primary care cluster working for a number of years, and set up Rhondda Pharmacy Collaborative alongside fellow Welsh Board member Gareth Hughes in 2019.  He completed a Post Graduate certificate in Clinical Pharmacy and Therapeutics at Keele University the same year.

In 2021 he took on a part time role with Community Pharmacy Wales as Associate director of contractor engagement, providing support for 60 newly appointed Community Pharmacy Collaborative Leads across Wales, and providing contractual support for contractors in Cwm Taf, Powys and Betsi Cadwaladr Health Boards.

Aled works closely with pharmacists across all sectors, including GP, Local Health Boards, Health Education and Improvement Wales, Public Health Wales, academia and the RPS. Aled leads for Community Pharmacy Wales on collaborative working, digital workstreams — including the electronic prescription service (EPS) roll out — and independent prescribing support.

He sits on numerous ‘Pharmacy: Delivering a Healthier Wales’ working groups, the Public Health Wales antimicrobial stewardship workstream, and the Wales EPS Programme Board. He also regularly locums in community pharmacy, delivering all national community pharmacy services, including the Community Pharmacy Independent Prescribing Service.

He is a father of one, enjoys watching sport and makes intermittent attempts at running. He is increasingly interested in gardening as he approaches 40. He is incredibly proud to have been voted onto the RPS Wales board by his peers, and hopes to be able to make a positive contribution to the direction of the profession over the next two years.
